Case Closed

The light at the end of this tunnel is getting brighter. We’ve been holding our breath waiting for the Supreme Court to make a decision on the birth family’s appeal following termination of rights, and now we can take a breath of fresh air as we read the words “Denied” and “Case Stored” on his case file. The only thing we are waiting on is the official paperwork from the court so the adoption process can truly start. We have an attorney who is working on getting our side of the paperwork done, including asking our son what he wanted his name to be. It makes our hearts full that he was ready to change his last name to our’s. He also wanted to change his middle name, and we were more than happy to agree to that. But then he asked if he could change his first name, too. We had to draw a line somewhere.

I still find myself holding my breath and will probably continue to do so until the day of adoption when the judge slams the gavel down…if they do that kind of thing on Adoption Day… to which my son and I believe they really should because how cool would that be!
