Winds in the East

“…mist coming in, like something is brewing, about to begin.”

The winds are changing.

I saw a sign recently that applied perfectly to me: I don’t mind change, just as long as nothing is different or altered.

But as I sit outside today, I close my eyes and lift my face to the heavens and thank God for the cool weather pushing away the southern humidity. I’ve seen mountains. I’ve seen plains. I’ve seen oceans, and I’ve seen deserts. But nothing seems to take my breath away like the breath of Autumn. I may not like change, but this is the good kind of change. The kind where the breeze feels like it’s carrying something extraordinary our way. It already has.

There is a little boy who calls me “Mom”.

Although it’s not legal yet, I have a son.

There is legal wave to ride before it becomes official. Who knows how long it will be. But with every step of the legal process, we are getting closer and closer to adoption. He’s already dropped his last name and changed it to ours, letting the world know that he is ours and we are his. He’ll have a Thanksgiving feast for the first time in his life tomorrow, and he’ll experience it surrounded by his forever family. And when we bow our heads to give thanks, I know that we’ll all have something to truly be thankful for. There’s a new son, grandson, nephew, and cousin that was sent to us.

It’s going to be a mighty adventure.

Dearest Nikki, on this roller coaster ride we call life, I’ve come to believe that with change comes the opportunity to trust… trust in the glorious divine plan that always works for our benefit. Even when the new adventure is not what we’ve planned, hindsight reveals gifts that we hadn’t forseen. My prayers of gratitude on this Thanksgiving are for you, Michael and that “new son, grandson, nephew and cousin”… and great-grandson! I couldn’t be happier! Let those winds come from the east, Mary Poppins… so does the dawn of a new day!
