The Music of Now

There’s a tattoo on my wrist. It’s just two little words that has taken on many meanings in my life.

Be Still

God has reminded me of those words through the thick of my most anxious and bustling thoughts several times throughout my life. Many people may find me foolish, but these are moments when I know God exists. I was too wrapped up in myself to even consider those words. My head would be swarming with worry and woes, and it was as if God had parted the violent, stormy sea and said…

Be Still

There are several ways people have interpreted what God meant when he said these words found in Psalm 46:10. I originally had it tattooed on my wrist as a constant reminder to trust my Father in the battlefield of my mind. But it has taken on more meanings as I go through life.

Dear reader, if you are the type of person who feels like you’re always trying to catch up, always rushing as if life is one big emergency after another, then we have something in common.

As we go through the adoption process that is taking longer than anticipated (I will go into more detail in my next post), I have to remind myself to “be still” and enjoy the music of now. To slow down and listen to chorus in the chaos, not wasting a day wishing I could press the “next” button in life.

I have to remind myself of this in my writing process. I find myself frustrated and anxious because things are not happening as quickly as I would like. So instead of having fun doing this thing I love to do, I’m racing to get it done. It robs me of the joy I have in writing.

And so I will try to be still so that I may listen to the songs of today. To take in the now instead of waiting for the next.

My hope is that you will be encouraged to do the same.

By Gods grace you share the real joy of -being still- and knowing the truth that God is God. Resting in Him. Cradled in His secure arms. Thank you for reminding me.
